All About Royalty Free Photos

Image
High-quality and cheap royalty free photos are a relatively recent phenomenon. Only a few years ago, image research would have been a time-intensive, pricey exercise. There was a time when images would be shipped as transparencies or prints that needed to be sent to a reprographic house because the tabletop scanner wasn't adequate (read: could not produce pictures of adequate quality). Everything has transformed a little since that time. Thank God, however, because right now there are many websites that offer royalty free photos, like istockphoto.com and Getty Images. We'd find the things we needed there 9 times out of ten. They provide top quality and incredibly cheap photos. If you wish to explore more websites that offer royalty free, continue reading. Like a lot of other activities the web has changed the way you look for and buy images. The time it requires to obtain the right image continues to be shortened, however, the cost of pictures hasn't necessarily gon...

How Could the Domain Name Extension Improve Your Photography Business?

Image
If you happen to be a photographer, you will be more than interested about the next few paragraphs. You will learn what your business should be about, when it comes to its online presence. It is not enough to own the so sought-after Nikon or Canon equipment. If your work is not out there for people to see it, it's as if your professional career doesn't even exist. Many photographers take great wedding photos: they select images and build up an amazing photo-book to remain in their portfolio and their clients' wedding albums. A photographer who doesn't expose his/her professional talent online will always struggle to find new clients. Once professional photographers get to launch their portfolios online, their work starts to actually pay off. Branding yourself as a photographer in the online environment has a lot to do with the website you develop. Professional websites need to feature a "gTLD" type of domain. "gTLD" stands for generic top-lev...

What's That Old Film Camera Worth?

Image
In the days before cameras went digital, there was a broad consensus of opinion as to the second-hand value of particular makes and models. This judgment was immortalised in various publications know generically as Blue Books, which were normally updated annually, aimed at traders could be extremely expensive to buy. McKeown's is one of the most respected Blue Books. The last edition was published in 2005/2006, and a used copy can be purchased via Amazon for around £400 in hardback (I said it was expensive). There are lesser Blue Books, for example Hove International once published an annual price guide, but because these volumes are no longer updated, any price guide will be at least ten years old, and second-hand (pre-owned), so the choice available varies according to when you search for such things. As a tool for the casual camera collector, a Blue Book is generally pretty useless. The pages are populated with details of obscure cameras; things I've never heard of...

Why Aperture Prority Is the Best Shooting Mode for Wedding Photography

Image
"Real Pros Shoot Manual" If I had a penny for every time I had heard this in a photography forum, I could have given up wedding photography years ago and bought my own island. The sad fact is that photography forums are not really a great place to learn about photography. More often than not one or two 'strong characters' will voice an opinion and then their acolytes will repeat it until all opposition is crushed. Forums are more about clashes of egos than real photography advice, with one or two notable exceptions. Often the best real world choice is worked out by photographers in the field, not armchair enthusiasts with an axe to grind. I have shot in manual mode only for prolonged stretches and I do still use it if that is the best option, but for wedding photography or anything where things can unfold quickly, I find aperture priority the best choice. My Journey away from Manual Mode. Like most young photographers who started shooting film, I was taught ...

Newborn photography props are very popular at the moment in newborn photography sessions. And no wonder! I have spent many hours searching for beautiful newborn photography props and have put together a list of my favorites for you below. I hope that it helps you create lovely images! 1. Tiebacks: These must be the most popular newborn photography prop. I own a lot of these - in many different colors and textures! I normally find it's best to have a couple of tiebacks in each colour to match the other accessories you own. 2. Flokati Rugs: I own several of these beautiful rugs and swear by them for each and every session I have. They add a gorgeous texture to each image I take and are available in many lovely colors. 5 Newborn Photography Props You'll Need

Image
A lot of people like myself are hooked on beautiful newborn photography props. Ensure that you keep it simple! It is better to use classic tones, colours and textures when posing a newborn. Newborns are dainty and tiny and they need to be the focus of your picture, rather than the beautiful props you are using. 1. Wraps: I own several stretch wraps and cheesecloth wraps and use them at each newborn session. Wraps are perfect for starting a session out. In general most newborns like to be wrapped. Many newborns do not like to have their feet and hands exposed and the wraps give them some comfort and security. For those who have a newborn that's awake, wrapped shots are also an effective method to use. 2. Blankets: I 'm addicted to throws and blankets! I really like choosing throws and blankets which are soft to the touch and that have lovely texture. I don't put a newborn on throw or a blanket that's rough or that could possibly harm the baby. I also pick materia...

Starting With Photo Editing Effects

Image
1. Tinting the Image - A greener effect makes colors appear cooler, thereby creating a vintage look that has a lot of impact on viewers. This is done by changing the color temperature of the image to make it look greener. Tweak the contrast of your image, and adjust the slider that controls the overall tint. In general, image editors allow users to change the tint of images without having to work on specific areas of the image 2. Stylizing Action - What could be cooler than making an action photograph look more dynamic. You simply have to create duplicates of your original image and change the color channel so you will have a variety of color scales to work with. Predominantly green or blue are great for dynamic, stylized action photos. When the stylized image duplicates are placed side by side in a single layer, a good blurring effect is achieved. 3. B & W - For the fact that people are constantly bombarded by color, vintage styling remains important. When trying to em...

Image
There are barely four essentials to trick photography that you will need to create spectacular trick photos: a subject, a light source, your camera and a tripod. Unless you are shooting pure light subjects, like swirling physiograms, you will need a subject so you can conceptualize your photos better. Don't get me wrong, additional materials and tools may be required in some trick shots, but for the most basic photographic effects, the four things listed above are sufficient. Learn to tweak the basic settings on your camera as this is the simplest way to create special effects on your image. Check out the list below to see a breakdown of the most essential settings you will need to be familiar with if you want to perform and enjoy trick photography: 1. The good ISO speed settings for trick photography ranges between 100 ...

Fun Photo Effects for Photographers

Image
There are several ways to introduce an effect to a digital image. At the most basic level you can use preset values or "image filters". Instagram has been considered the most used applications in phones and tablets that makes use of preset values to alter the color spectrum of an image.  Using filters can enhance a person's enjoyment of everyday photography. New cameras like Camera360 provide a plethora of filters for use in everyday shooting. However, to amaze your friends and family, you just have to go beyond simple image filters. To get you started, here are some photo effect ideas: 1. Shooting Lightning - Isn't it amazing how photographers are able to shoot lightning? Well the process is really simple. All you just need is a wide - open landscape with lightning strikes, a tripod and your camera Long exposures are required to capture lightning as it passes through the atmosphere. Well, some photographers are comfortable with really long exposures (some...

Simple Repairs and Restoration of Older Film Cameras

Image
The first and easiest step in restoring an older camera is to clean the outside. The external condition will not affect performance, but once cleaned it will look and feel a whole lot better. Even if it looks clean, the chances are that it is actually harbouring a lifetime of grime. The best thing to clean a camera is freely available: it's spit. The enzymes in saliva that break down food also break down dirt. If you think this is a bit gross, then consider this: painting restorers use spit to clean paintings, and the phrase "spit and polish" acknowledges that saliva is a universal solvent that will clean almost anything, but damage next to nothing (except food stuffs of course). Don't clean the lens or any other glass parts with saliva. It won't do any harm, but there are better things to use. So, the best way to clean a camera is by rubbing with a little cotton wool, dampened in the mouth, and you'll see the cotton wool change colour as it removes gr...

Picture Frames in the Modern World

Image
The days when picture frames were boring and ugly are long gone. The good news for you is that now you can find various types of frame designs that can complement all decors, depending on your wishes. They are perfect for exhibiting your favorite photos or artistic pieces, but since they are so diverse, they can also be seen as design elements. For instance, if you are a fan of traditional designs you will most likely go with the picture frames that have a traditional style and include other pieces into the space. If your design plan is more contemporary, then you will probably go with the frames that have clean lines. Glamorous schemes use metallic styles (silver and gold) because these colors give a more formal and elegant image. In the case of the rustic decorating styles, picture frames are made out of grapevine or twigs, and they can go great with styles covered by fabric that fit perfectly into the country décor. Lots of picture frames come combined with textures or finis...
